When I first started gardening a couple of years ago, I had no clue on what best gardening tools to use! I was using my hands most of the time but little did I know that there are some very good tools out there! Here are my 10 Best Gardening Essentials for Beginners that will make gardening more enjoyable and easier in no particular order.
Weeding Stick
Weeding Is the only thing that can drive me crazy when I am working in the garden. No matter how much you try to get rid of the weeds they keep growing back and let’s not forget about the back pain added from the constant bending. This Weeding stick tool helps with that and pulls the weed straight out with root and all. It is so good at picking up dandelions especially because they are one of the hardest weed to pull out in my opinion and it takes it out completely from the root. This is one of my top gardening essentials for beginners who aren’t too sure on how to pull out a weed.
Foldable Pad and Tools Holder
This Chair/Knee Pad is great for when you do need to bend and plant the flowers. Here you can use this as a chair when you flip it upside down, but you can also kneel on it while your gardening and it has handles. It also has a caddy on the side to hold all of your essential tools and it’s lightweight to carry around for $20 you can’t beat the multi uses.
Weeding Knife
This weeding knife is truly amazing! I saw the positive reviews on Amazon and saw in the example videos how you can do so much with it and boy did it not disappoint. Usually when I plant my garden beds this is my go to tool to cut through the soil and dig up a hole quickly and easily. Don’t even get me started on taking a weed out. It is amazing and does it so smoothly one of my top tools for the garden. You just need to be very careful with it because it is very sharp. It is my go to tool for everything in the garden lately.
Gloves
It’s always good to have a good pair of gloves. It is one of your most used gardening essentials to have at hand. I have a couple. I use one daily when I do not want to get dirt under my fingernails and one for plants with thorns which are my rose garden gloves. Choose a breathable fabric preferably water proof so your hands can breathe.
Pruning Shears
I currently use these Fiskars pruning shears. There are two types of shears you can use. Anvil pruners work great for deadwood, whereas bypass pruners are better for live plants and greenwood. Honestly I stick to one most of the time which is the bypass but it is great to have the other whenever needed.
Loppers
These are Loppers or pruners with really long handles. This is best to cut back bushes or tree stems and other high to reach stems. There are also two kinds. Some of the long handles can be heavy so test them out at the store and see which feel right.

Garden Fork (Cultivator)
A garden fork / cultivator is a great tool for loosening and turning soil. It helps when you are prepping the pots or beds for planting. It helps make the soil loose and easier to work with.
Rake
Rakes are amazing to gather leaves but also clean the bed and other debris. I usually love to use a small rake to get around my flower beds. If it is mainly for your flower beds, I use a plastic one because it is softer on your flower beds or grass. Steel ones I find to be a bit rough but also does great to pick up large debris. They come in various sizes so just choose which one you feel will work best in your yard.
Watering Can
Watering cans are made of plastic or metal with various sizes and nozzle options. They are handy to have if you need to fill pots and they are not in easy reach from your garden hoes. Some watering cans have different heads. They come with shower spouts and some with a simple thin mouth. Watering cans are metal (make sure it is galvanized so it won’t rust easily) but they can be heavy filled. Plastics are light weight but do not last too long. So it all depends on your preference.
A Caddy or Wagon
I never thought I would need a Caddy but this is a garden essential! When you are running around to different garden beds it can be hard lugging all the needed supplies. You carry fertilizer, tools, watering can etc. These are amazing in having all of your tool within arm reach and great for storage as well, then all you would have to do is store it away in your shed with everything organized in it.
