I’ve been on a reading binge this summer. Here are a list of the best books I’ve read this summer that had me on my toes with wanting to read more!
The Magnolia Story | Such a great book about Joanna and Chip Gaines, which I’m sure a lot of you know by now from HGTV Fixer Upper. It’s on their life as a couple and the struggles they’ve been through and how it led them to be where they are today. What I loved most about this book is the love and inspiration they fed off of each other and their trust in God to lead them in the right path in life. Such an inspiring book.
The Butterfly Garden | Such a chilling story about a serial killer who collects young girls and keeps them captive in his secret garden as human butterflies. He tattoos huge wings of butterflies on their back and has them live in this man made garden where walls come down to hide them if actual contracted gardeners come to upkeep the garden. The girls live captive there without anyone knowing they are there besides the Gardner and his sons. They feed them, take care of them and keep them well cared for until their time to be put down before a certain age and then put in display cases that keep them preserved. The story is told through a cop and victim interrogation after they are rescued and they are trying to put the pieces together of why it was all done.
Everything We Keep | This book made you really feel for Aimee the main character in the story. She had her whole life planned out was about to get married and then it all turns upside down. The very same day she was suppose to get married she is at the funeral of her fiancé and soon comes to find out there is more to the story than what is being portrayed. As Aimee tries to get her life together without the man she planned her future with, things start to pop up and have her doubt he is even dead. This book took me through a whirlwind of an emotional rollercoaster. You really feel for Aimee as she tries to get her life back together and the deep depression she goes through, the questions that haunt her. Once she makes it her business to figure it all out, that’s when it gets really interesting and keeps you on your toes. It’s such a non cliche love story on how sometimes the future you plan with someone doesn’t alway turn out how you planned. Sometimes you think you know someone like the back of your hand, and then you get a rude awakening.
Everything We Left Behind | This is the continuation of the book Everything We Keep. Instead now its on the opposite perspective. Won’t give any spoilers, read the first one.
Follow You Home | Yikes if you want mystery and suspense here you have it. A couple madly in love travel all around Europe as a “before we settle down” adventure, to travel and see around the world before they decide to have a baby. After a perfect start to their travels Daniel and Laura find themselves on a train meeting a couple and chatting it up. Soon things turn sour and they are thrown off the train with the female friend they met on the train in the middle of nowhere, they soon decide to walk the tracks of the train back to a town instead of staying in a deserted area. Things get crazy when the female friend goes missing and they try to find her in the forest. After they are back in their hometown London, Daniel and Laura are so traumatized of what they saw in the forest that they vowed never to talk about it again. Soon weird things start to happen to Daniel and he comes to realize that maybe they weren’t alone back in London and someone is watching them.
So there you have it a bit of love and a bit of horror for this fine cozy fall season to read 🙂 what else is everyone reading this season? I’m looking for some new books to read.
